Moments:

‘Spy × Family’ is an action-comedy anime about the spy Loid Forger, who is given the mission to prevent the war between Westalis and Ostania.
To achieve this, he must assemble a family consisting of Anya (adopted daughter) and Yor Briar (fake wife).
As part of this mission, Anya takes on the important task of befriending Damian Desmond so that Loid Forger can get closer to his father, the target.

Most of the time, the anime is all about the missions, which means that some situations can be action-packed and even brutal.
The romantic moments are kept to a minimum, but it is very funny and the wholesome factor is also very high.

So anyone who values romance in this anime will be rather disappointed here.
It only gets rather romantic at the beginning and maybe a bit in the middle, but most of it only takes place in the minds of Loid Forger and Yor Briar.
Hope for progress, let alone development, is not to be expected for the time being.

Loid Forger tries to keep this fake family and relationship with Yor Briar professional.
Yor Briar also puts a lot of effort into maintaining the fake relationship, as she only does it so that her brother doesn’t worry about her.
And yet it is obvious that they are getting closer than they want to admit.
However, Yor Briar’s affection for Loid Forger is a little more noticeable.

Animation:

I really like the animation style.
The action scenes are great, I especially like how the emotions are expressed in the characters’ faces.

Characters:

Loid Forger, Anya and Yor Briar:

Loid Forger is a spy, a top agent with many talents.

Not much is known about him, but being a spy is his existence and he takes it very seriously.
If he has a role to play in a mission, he can always impersonate it brilliantly.
He approaches everything very professionally and thoughtfully and plans everything in advance so that nothing goes wrong.

As long as he succeeds in his mission and peace is maintained, he doesn’t care about anything else.
Or rather, he has switched off his emotions and finds it difficult when he has to behave normally and show his real feelings.
But he didn’t have to worry about that in his previous missions and was able to complete them successfully.

However, things are a little different on his newest mission and his plans are no longer working as they should.
Because there are many unpredictable scenarios and secrets that he knows nothing about, so he has to improvise a lot.
His biggest problem is Anya, the child he has adopted in order for his mission to succeed.

On the one hand, he tries to teach Anya so that she does well at school and makes it to the top, which opens up opportunities for Loid Forger that bring him closer to his target.
On the other hand, he’s also trying to play a good father role to her, which he sometimes finds difficult, and Anya doesn’t always make it easy for him either.

Anya is not a ordinary child.
She has telepathic powers and can read people’s minds.
Her abilities help her to recognize what is happening around her.

Thanks to this talent, Anya can achieve a lot and is therefore also a great help in Loid Forger’s mission.
With this insight, she is also able to develop a better understanding of adults.
Ultimately, however, she is still a child and can’t always understand some of the ways adults think.

She has a clumsy nature and has no other special talents but is very adorable and manages to solve tricky situations.
Anya doesn’t have it easy at school though, as it’s very difficult for her to get good grades in various subjects.
However, she usually has luck on her side and is able to complete her task successfully in the end.

Thus she tries to keep up at school and also makes sure that the mission for Loid Forger is completed successfully.
After all, Anya finally wants to belong to a family and makes every effort to ensure that Loid Forger doesn’t send her back to the orphanage so that the fake Forger family can hopefully become a real Forger family.

Yor Briar is a contract killer and, like Loid Forger, has extraordinary talents, especially when it comes to her physical abilities.

Her job as a contract killer actually suits her very well, as she has a bizarre obsession with violence.
She’s so enthusiastic about weapons and hurting, torturing and killing evil people that she falls into a state of intoxication.
For example, she stares passionately at a picture of a guillotine or caresses a knife in a restaurant with great fascination.
Yor Briar is extremely strong, very fast and highly agile in battle.

However, she does not harm innocent people.
On the contrary, she has a strong protective instinct.
She does everything she can to ensure that innocent people, especially her family and loved ones, can lead a carefree life.
For this reason, she fights the evil people who try to disturb the peace.

Yor Briar needs a fake relationship because her brother is worried about her, that’s why she agrees to this fake marriage with Loid Forger.
She takes very good and loving care of Anya and protects her from all dangers, just like a real mother would do for her child.
The only thing she’s really not good at is cooking, but she’s trying hard to get better at that too.

Together with Loid Forger, she also goes to great lengths to keep the fake relationship secret so that nobody finds out the truth.
And they both try to keep the relationship professional.
But occasionally it becomes noticeable that Yor Briar is slowly developing feelings for Loid Forger and that her family life is becoming more important to her.
While Loid Forger is a little better at suppressing his feelings, they still do surface sometimes.

Ending:

‘Spy × Family’ ends with a normal ending that points to another season.
I really enjoyed the first two seasons and can’t wait to watch the movie and more seasons.

I don’t think much will change in Loid Forger and Yor Briar’s romantic relationship for now.
Their development is very slow, so I don’t expect anything to happen until much later.

But I will still keep watching the show because of the wholsomness – Anya and her acts – the cool mission and action – Fiona Frost and her development – and of course the little romantic moments between Loid Forger and Yor Briar.

Episode Rating:

Most of the episodes are rather limited in terms of romance.
There is usually some action or drama because of the missions, but can also be very heartwarming at times.

Only the very beginning of the first season (episodes 2 and 3) were very good, because Loid Forger and Yor Briar meet for the first time and make up the fake relationship.

The most unromantic moments were in episodes 9 and 24, because Yor Briar got drunk and became very aggressive.
